‘Resetting the Table: A Symposium on Feminist Art and Herstory’ took place at Studio Arts College of Florence in the fall of 2017. It focused on the role of female artists in society and the knowledge to be gained from the ground-breaking work of a prominent cultural institution. The symposium highlighted the presence of women in art and art criticism in the city of Florence, linking past and present, theory and practice, with the goal of giving a different legibility to the environment in which we live. Presented as a daylong event, this book is a record of the six lectures given by women of various backgrounds and expertise, all revolving around two themes: that of the challenge that confronts contemporary artists in their struggle for recognition and respect, and that of how feminism can inform and illuminate a study of the past.
